Green Smoothie Recipes

Sure, I love recycling and the idea of riding a bike to work as much as the next gal, but my favorite way to go green? Spinach. Kale. Mint. I’m talking green smoothies, of course! The gang and I got adventurous this week and tried out some different Green Smoothie recipes— and there’s no shortage of ideas; they’re everywhere! Here are the ones we tried and loved…or didn’t love so much. (All recipes are for 1 serving)

green smoothie recipeCucumber Mint
1 cup spinach
Fresh mint (to taste) —I used 4 leaves
Fresh parsley (to taste) — I threw in a medium handful
Juice from 1/2 a lemon
1/2 cucumber
1 (1/2-inch) cube of ginger
8 ounces of water
1 scoop Fat Flush vanilla Whey Protein

We liked the flavors in this one— the ginger, cucumber, herbs, lemon juice? All very fresh and bright flavors! But to be honest, I thought Kelley was ready to head for the hills when I put this one in front of her. (I know, green can be scary!) But according to Chris, this was his favorite “test recipe” of the day! The texture wasn’t as thick as we’re used to— typical of smoothies without any fruit in them— but the flavors were fresh and yummy.

Green Apple & Kale
1 (1/2-inch) cube of gingergreen smoothie recipe
1/4 lemon (Rind and everything! I cut off the end nubs though, so there wasn’t a huge chunk of rind)
1 green apple
1 cup of kale
8 ounces of water
1 scoop Fat Flush Body Protein

Now, I know what you’re thinking— “The lemon rind?? Is she crazy?!” But if you let it blend thoroughly, the rind adds a lemon-y punch that lemon juice (by itself) can’t hit. I think that’s why this one was my favorite. (Carol agreed!) I love how vibrant the lemon and green apple were together. However, Emily wasn’t a fan of the lemon-y-ness.

green smoothie recipeGreen Monster
1 cup greens (I used spinach, but kale can be used as well)
Fresh cilantro (to taste) — I threw in a skimpy handful
1 pear
1 frozen banana
1/4 avocado
8 ounces water
1 scoop Fat Flush Body Protein

Between the banana, avocado and pear, this smoothie had some BODY! (translation: this baby was thick!) Kelley liked this one (yes, she stuck around) because she’s a banana lover. Emily also voted this as her fave.

Lime Booster
1/2 cucumber
1/2 avocadogreen smoothie recipe
1 cup spinach
3 limes (Again, I snipped off the end nubs of pure rind and threw the rest in whole)
Cinnamon (to taste) —I didn’t really measure, to be honest. We like cinnamon so I did 2-3 shakes and called it good.
8 ounces water
1 scoop Fat Flush vanilla Whey Protein

The recipe calls for 3 limes, but I might advise using 2 (unless you just love citrus pungency). Same as with the lemon, the rinds add an extra punch of flavor— which we love, don’t get me wrong— but 3 was just a hair too much. Carol may or may not have let out a gasp and a “Woo!” after the first sip of this one. In the summertime, this will be the go-to for a refreshingly bright smoothie. But we’re not quite there yet.

Do you have a favorite Green Smoothie recipe or green combo we didn’t try? I’d love to hear it! (And I’d love to try it on my little smoothie test-tasters!) Leave me a note in the comments!
